Role
Independent product lead across product strategy, naming, experience design, trust and safety, privacy, technical governance, Figma direction and production experiment delivery.
Maturity boundary
Phase 0. A static production pitch and bounded Republic-of-Ireland, 18+ availability waitlist exist. No durable youth-facing application, participant evidence, validated coaching model or approved safeguarding system is claimed.

CURRENT PRODUCT DIRECTION

Current identity and governed experiment.

Phase 0 · Bounded live experiment · August 2026These images show the current production identity and selected Figma direction. A bounded Republic-of-Ireland, 18+ availability waitlist exists; it is not youth research, a participant study or evidence of a completed youth-facing application.

CONTEXT

The originating hypothesis is that young people need a quiet space to choose something that matters, act away from the phone and reflect honestly without entering another attention-maximising feed. Through puts real-world follow-through, rather than screen time, at the centre of that product direction.

MY CONTRIBUTION

I developed the discovery foundation, made the naming decision and moved the public identity, consent language, Figma direction, tests, email display identity and production experiment together while preserving stable infrastructure and dated evidence.

WHAT IS TRUE NOW

The public identity, Figma direction, adult waitlist, privacy boundary, data path and production deployment are implemented and verified. The underlying youth-facing product remains build-gated pending intended-user research, safeguarding work and consent decisions.

  • Real-world action over engagement
  • Identity, consent and delivery together
  • Evidence before build

CONTEXT & PROBLEM

Design for leaving, not staying.

Through has an unusual success condition for a digital product: brief use followed by meaningful action away from the phone.

The intended experience is a small private space where a young person can choose something they want, make a manageable commitment and look back honestly without entering another feed.

IDENTITY AS A PRODUCT DECISION

Name the action, not the platform.

The early working title explained the product direction, but sounded more like positioning than something a young person might own. Through carries the action at the centre of the idea: choose something real and see it through, then get back to your life.

I treated the naming decision as more than visual branding. Public copy, consent language, email display identity, Figma, tests and production moved together before the first campaign signup. Stable URLs, provider resources, campaign constants and dated evidence remained unchanged where renaming would add risk rather than clarity.

PRODUCT THESIS

Two minutes, then back to your own life.

The working thesis connects a chosen real-world action, a light-touch commitment and non-punitive reflection. The product should never turn missed intentions into shame or optimise for time spent inside the app.

That principle is firm; mechanics such as goal limits, notification cadence, coaching tone, streaks and rewards remain open to evidence.

FROM DIRECTION TO PRODUCTION

One quiet signal, kept central.

The production refinement retained the orbit as the landing page's main visual motif: three restrained rings and three points, exported directly from Figma rather than approximated in CSS.

It scales from 340px on mobile to 480px on desktop, moves slowly and becomes static when reduced motion is requested.

BOUNDED LIVE EXPERIMENT

Make the smallest honest commitment.

The live experiment is a Republic-of-Ireland availability waitlist for adults aged 18 or older, not a beta or youth research cohort. It asks for the minimum needed to send one message if Through becomes available.

The campaign has fixed dates, explicit consent, stated deletion controls and no analytics, profiling or newsletter sequence. That makes the experiment real without pretending the underlying product has been validated.

TRUST & SAFETY

Treat an inner life as sensitive product data.

The proposed trust model treats personal reflection as sensitive data. It prioritises clear consent, data minimisation, age-appropriate safeguarding and careful escalation, while keeping AI support bounded in tone and purpose.

The adult waitlist implements a narrow privacy boundary, but no youth-facing collection or safety system exists. Those broader safeguards remain requirements to investigate and validate.

DELIVERY GATE

A complete specification does not earn a build.

The public pitch, coherent identity and adult waitlist make the direction discussable, but visual coherence and deployment are not participant evidence.

The next gate is research with intended users and age-appropriate safeguarding expertise to test the problem, language, trust expectations and smallest credible experience before application development begins.

EVIDENCE & BOUNDARIES

  • The production site verifies the current Through identity, public pitch and bounded waitlist state; the waitlist is not a youth-facing product or participant study.
  • The availability waitlist is limited to adults in the Republic of Ireland, one possible product-availability message, fixed campaign dates, minimum data and stated deletion controls.
  • The intended audience and proposed behavioural benefit remain hypotheses. No adoption, behaviour-change, safeguarding or wellbeing outcome is claimed.

WHAT I CARRY FORWARD

Identity, consent, delivery and evidence have to move together.

The rename did not earn a product build. It showed that current-facing identity and consent must change as one governed release, while stable infrastructure and historical evidence should remain deliberately unchanged when continuity is the safer truth.
